The BTBC makes it easy and affordable with free camping,
low cost food services, and ride share hotline

Absentee or remote voting is not permitted in Tribal elections, so any Blackfeet member wishing to cast their vote must come to Browning to do so.

This year, more than in previous years, there is great interest among off-Reservation members to come Home to vote.  This interest has been sparked by two factors:  1) The ongoing Constitutional Reform efforts has heightened interest in Tribal government and affairs, and 2) For the first time in decades the Blackfeet are moving forward in big, bold, positive ways and members everywhere want to vote for continued progress and want to be a part of it.

There are 16,500 enrolled Blackfeet and 7,500 of them live off the Reservation.  So off-Reservation voters represent enormous political will and clout, if they choose to come Home to exercise their vote.

But, especially in the summer, it can be expensive to come: lodging is scarce and very expensive and eating in restaurant is also expensive.

The Council wants to make it easy and affordable for Blackfeet members to exercise their right to vote.  So they have made numerous arrangements, including:

1.  Members and their families can camp for free at Tribal campgrounds with electricity and showers.

2.  Low-cost food services so members can eat for a few dollars a day.

3.  Free wifi and internet access, including free computer use.

4.  Free long distance calls home.

5.  Indoor beds if you don’t want to camp –nothing fancy, but safe and warm.

6.  Rideshare hotline / online system, especially for Western Washington,    Spokane, Portland, and Yakima to share gas expense and vehicles.

7.  Special events so members can have a blast reconnecting with other members.

The Primary Election is Tuesday June 1st and the General Election is Tuesday June 29th.   Members and their families can arrive as early as May 29th and stay for a few days (arrive as early as June 26th for the General Election).

So throw a tent and sleeping bags in the car, and for the price of gas and a few bucks for food, you and your family can come Home for a fun vacation in the most beautiful place on earth.  Connect and reconnect with your Tribal brothers and sisters.
